Aspire Mentorship was set up by two doctors who are passionate about teaching and nurturing the next generation of doctors and dentists.  

Over time, their enthusiasm and dedication towards helping aspiring students has lead to the development of a strong, like-minded team of mentors, whom all of which are fully qualified doctors or dentists in current practice.

The entire network of mentors includes specialists in all areas of medicine, surgery and dentistry including, but not limited to: oral maxillofacial surgery, gastroenterology, radiology, family medicine and periodontology.  

All mentors share the same passion for teaching and have committed time in their schedules specifically towards helping students who wish to pursue a career in medicine or dentistry. Their goal is your successful development of the characteristics of a Doctor or Dentist and subsequent successful entry into Medical or Dental school.

All mentors are actively in-touch and up-to-date with the current application processes for medical and dental schools in the UK and have full insight into what makes an eligible, successful candidate. They have been there once themselves!

DR ALEX MAN

Dr. Man is a Medical Doctor who specialises in Family Medicine. 

He studied his A-levels in London and graduated with a Degree in BSc Biochemistry with First Class Honours at Queen Mary University of London. He was also awarded the Draper Company Prize for outstanding academic achievement. 

He subsequently spent his postgraduate year working as a biochemical scientist for TATA Global Beverages Ltd and also worked closely with Headway - The Brain Injury Association. After discovering that he enjoyed helping people on an individual level, he made a pivotal decision to change career and decided to pursue a medical career and was accepted to read Medicine (MBBS) at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

After graduating he joined the London Deanery to complete his Junior Doctor training. He worked at Watford General Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital, where he undertook rotations in geriatric medicine, cardiology, breast surgery, respiratory medicine, and urology.

Dr. Man is also a qualified public speaker and trainer, having obtained a BTEC in Training the Trainer (ILM/NCFE) at the College of Public Speaking. He also has interests in areas outside of medicine. He is the CEO of NexusNow Ltd, a multi-professional networking society in London. He is also involved with the development of the British Chinese community and is currently a member of the Chinese Diaspora Emerging Leadership Project, a social enterprise initiative run by Lord Wei of Shoreditch, a member of the House of Lords.     

Dr. Man is passionate about encouraging and helping students to enter the medical and dental professions. His expertise and up-to-date knowledge of the application process has consistently assisted many students in successfully achieving places in medical and dental school.

DR BILLY LEUNG 

MBBS BDS BSC MRCS MSC DOHNS

CO-FOUNDER | lead mentor

Dr. Leung qualified as a doctor in 2011 from Barts and The London. He attained his Intercalated Science Degree (BSc) in Sports and Exercise Medicine during medical school. 

On graduation, he joined the London Deanery and completed his Foundation training at Queens Hospital and Colchester Hospital, during which he undertook training rotations in general medicine, general surgery and ENT surgery.

Following this, he took a gap year to teach undergraduate anatomy at King's College London and completed a Masters Degree (MSc) in Burns, Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery at University College London.

He then went on to commence his core surgical training at the Oxford Deanery in 2014, undertaking posts in plastic surgery, ENT surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has attained his Surgical Membership Exam (MRCS – Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England) and achieved a Diploma of Head and Neck Surgery (DOHNS) at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Following on from core surgical training, Dr. Leung commenced his studies in Dentistry (BDS) to gain dual qualifications in Medicine and Dentistry. He graduated from dental school in 2019. He is currently working as a Clinical Fellow in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Queens Hospital, London.

Overall, Dr. Leung is very committed to education and teaching. As you can see from his testimonials and activities, his enthusiasm for teaching and his dedication to the success of others is exemplary.

Mr SIMON LEUNG 

MBA MMGT PMSM

DIRECTOR 

Mr Leung has a wide range of operational and management experiences. 

He was a former law enforcement officer of Hong Kong for over 35 years and in recognition of his excellent service to Hong Kong society received the Police Meritorious Service Medal (PMSM) in 2011 awarded by the HKSAR government. He retired from the Force in 2012 as a Detective Chief Inspector. In pursuit of academic achievement during his career, he gained a Masters Degree in Management (MMgt) and a Masters Degree of Business Administration (MBA), both awarded by Macquarie University, Australia (2005 and 2007 respectively).

Since his retirement, Mr. Leung has taken up in various positions as an educator. In the period of 2014-2015, he was appointed by the Beijing and Shenzhen mainland police as a Lecturer for the Crisis Management course (Police Negotiation Training) and also appointed as a Senior Consultant for the Beijing Railway Police in the Police Negotiation Training. He was also appointed by the Hong Kong Institute of Technology as a Course Advisor and Lecturer for an undergraduate degree course on Crime Investigation (BSc) run by the Teesside University, UK, where he currently also holds a part-time lectureship on "Understanding Investigation and Terrorism".

Mr. Leung is committed to helping students pursue a career in medicine because his own son is also a doctor. He is fully aware of the challenges of preparing a student for medical school application and is highly supportive of the Mentorship Programme.

Miss Elizabeth Filips

Junior mentor | medical student

Elizabeth is currently a second year medical student studying at King’s College London. 

She graduated from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program in Finland in 2015, having studied Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics at Higher Level and English and French at Standard Level, being awarded the Science and Mathematics Proficiency Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement. In her application to medical school, she was ranked in the top decile of her cohort in the UKCAT exam, achieving 2880 and Band 1 in the Situational Judgement Test (SJT). 

Beyond her academic work, Elizabeth is also an artist, and is now working towards becoming a medical illustrator. She is currently involved in illustrating an anatomy textbook.
